Summary

I joined Tech N9ne’s touring team as a documentary-style videographer to capture behind-the-scenes moments, live performances, studio recording sessions, and fan interactions during a national U.S. tour supporting Falling in Reverse.

Context & Problem

Tech N9ne and Strange Music aimed to expand his digital footprint during the tour and keep fans engaged. The challenge was capturing the raw energy of live performances, intimate behind-the-scenes studio sessions, and authentic fan experiences — all while working within the fast-paced environment of touring.

Role & Responsibilities

• Filmed concerts all around the United States, capturing stage performances from various angles.

• Shot documentary-style content of day-to-day life on tour buses, backstage, and in recording sessions.

• Filmed and edited meet-and-greet moments, emphasizing Tech N9ne’s connection with fans.

• Delivered timely edits to align with tour promotion schedules and social media campaigns.

Process

• Developed a shot list for performances, backstage coverage, and fan interactions.

• Used Sony FX3 mirrorless camera, GoPro, and Ronin gimbal stabilizer to capture both cinematic and handheld documentary footage.

• Worked closely with the artist team to determine priority content for daily story posts and weekly recap videos.

• Edited footage on the road using DaVinci Resolve to meet rapid turnaround needs.

Solution & Deliverables

• Produced a library of live performance videos and photos highlighting Tech N9ne’s stage performance.

• Captured behind-the-scenes tour life and studio sessions for future documentary-style use.

• Created social-ready short-form weekly show recaps featuring live presence, meet & greets, and fan experiences.

Results & Impact

• Strengthened fan engagement by providing exclusive content from the tour.

• Delivered a multimedia archive of tour life that Strange Music can use for future promotional campaigns.

• Showcased Tech N9ne’s brand not only as a performer, but as an artist deeply connected to his fanbase.

Reflection

This tour experience sharpened my ability to operate independently under intense time constraints while traveling. I learned how to balance creativity with logistical challenges — from shooting in unpredictable live environments to editing in transit — and delivered professional content that supported both the artist’s brand and the label’s promotional needs.
